At first glance: not much. In the virtual reading room participants have their camera switched on and work quietly on their own, whilst in the background others eagerly hit their keyboards. However, once a motivational low sneaks along a brief look at your fellow campaigners will immediately remedy all feelings of loneliness. Or head straight for a refreshing break at HSGmeet on Wonder “and meet people for a chat”/ “and meet your friends and new acquaitances”? How can I enter the virtual reading room? The virtual reading room (bit.ly/VirtuellerLesesaal) can be entered and left at your own fancy Monday – Friday, 8am - 5pm without prior registration. Why am I denied entry into the virtual reading room? Only students and members of the university of St. Gallen using a HSG account can enter the virtual reading room. In the meeting I can only see the host’s shared screen and not the other participants. Can I fix this? Sure thing! Just double click on the picture of a different user and MS TEAMS will switch to gallery view. You can return to the screen of the host by clicking on the host’s window. The student staff from the Info Desk are looking after the virtual reading room during opening hours and are happy to help. Break room HSGmeet What is the break room HSGmeet? To compliment the virtual reading room we have created an area for your breaks on the platform «Wonder». With you microphone and your camera switched on you can find and meet other HSG students. When crossing paths with other users you will find yourself in an impromptu video call. How can I use the break room? The access link will be shared by the host in the virtual reading room. HSGmeet on Wonder can not be accessed at the same time as the virtual reading room, hence why you have to leave the virtual reading room bevor gaining access to the break room. Why does wonder not work/only work partially for me? Wonder only works on Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Safari, Firefox and other browsers are not supported. You also have to authorise Wonder to use your microphone and camera. What do the areas «Cafeteria», «Network area», and «Group meeting area» mean? These areas fuction solely to make it easier for users to find each other and as meeting point. I do not want other users to enter my conversations. Can I block them? That is possible. Just select the lock symbol of an active conversation to make it exclusive.
